Library

What are known in architects’ offices as Working Drawings amount to the architect’s definitive description of the intended building at any moment in the design process. A working drawing contains many layers of information, each layer relating to a different aspect of the construction, the drawing is constantly updated to take account of any changes in the development process, and eventually becomes the document which is used to instruct contractors on the work of construction.

‘Library’ represents and opens up several drawings to reveal their layers and to provide a snapshot of a moment in the designing of the library at Osborne School, a glass and brick structure spanning two floors.

'Drawings can dismantle or disregard material and weight, providing insight into the unattainable'

Mayne T, ‘Connected Isolation’ in Architecture in Transition (ed) Peter Noever, Munich, Prestel, 1991
